Professor and Director of Undergraduate Laboratories, Department of Physics and Astronomy

Dr. Leah Sherman is a professor and director of undergraduate laboratories in App State's Department of Physics and Astronomy. She has been a faculty member in the department since 2003 and currently teaches courses and labs in analytical physics.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sherman was part of the Online Teaching Excellence Institute, which was instrumental in reorganizing physics labs to be taught online.

"Dr. Sherman cares so deeply for her students and spends so much time with them, one-on-one, to help them understand the class information," said one of Sherman's nominators. "She is also highly organized and creative with her teaching strategies. Her dedication to not only the content of her classes but also to the content of the lab is extraordinary."

Sherman earned a bachelor's degree in engineering physics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. She holds master's and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan.
